AUSTRALIAN supplier Scantech has announced it will continue to expand its product range and international distribution in 2009.

The company says it continues to seek to consolidate its position as the second biggest international supplier of the valuable analytical technology.

Scantech says its focus is on adding new products to its range but also ensuring its our existing products remain up to date. It says any new technology it adopts must be compatible with its approach to on-line analysis and must fill a market niche that its existing products cannot fill.

The distributer says Tarong coal mine in Queensland is utilising its CIFA350 Carbon in Fly Ash Monitor and it believes there is a ready international market for the product.

The Carbon in Fly Ash Monitor 350 is the latest in a series. The monitors use a microwave interrogation technique, which relies on different responses of carbon and the other particulate matter in the gas stream to determine the amount of carbon present.

The Queensland mine operators say the CIFA350 plays an important role in its boiler control in coal burning power stations. It provides very useful on-line data which can assist in fine tuning the boiler for peak efficiency.

The miner claims this is particularly useful when coal from a variety of sources is being burnt.

Furthermore, the unit features CO2 emission monitoring and reporting. Carbon that remains in the ash does not contribute to CO2 emissions, so if unburned carbon is accurately measured a more precise calculation of CO2 emission can be made.

Scantech says while its competitors concentrate on one or two products, it has a range of products which provide solutions to meet its mining customers’ demands.

Furthermore, the company claims it is confident in its decision to expand its range following the company’s record 2007-08 year, when the company posted a 28% increase in revenues to $A13.68m and ended the period with 238% higher (year-on-year) orders on hand of $A8.5m.
