INDUSTREA has won a contract to supply Rio Tinto Coal with service and support for its Mt Thorley Warkworth coal mine in the Hunter Valley, NSW.
The global mining products and services provider’s subsidiary Huddy’s Mining Services will provide a significant number of pieces of heavy mining equipment to the mine.
The company claims coal shipments from the region are forecast to reach over 250 million tones by 2018 compared with the predicted 123 million tonnes in 2009. It says the area’s mines are the world’s biggest source of thermal coal, which is considered to be relatively insulated against market volatility.
The business says the contract win is part of its strategy of targeting the thermal coal market, which it expects will significantly expand its mining services in the Hunter Valley.
