MARINE and Industrial Marketing has seen its Rapp-it pipe bandages successfully used as an emergency pipe repair application.

It saw BHP Billiton recently use the bandages to repair a pipe after an unexpected leak in the main trunk line at one of its nickel mines, which allowed over 24 mega litres of water to flow from the bore fields.

The damaged pipe, which had a diameter of 600mm, was repaired successfully by using multiple rolls of Rapp-it. Rapp-it Pipe Repair Bandage is an emergency pipe repair system made from fibreglass impregnated with a water-activated polyurethane resin.

The bandages are first immersed in water for 10 seconds, and then can be applied by wrapping the bandage around the damaged pipe area.

Each Rapp-it Bandage comes with a 50mm stick of Steel Putty, which can be pushed into holes or cracks prior to application.

The bandages are designed to withstand heats up to 150° C, pressure up to 150 psi, and most diluted chemicals and fuels.

The bandages are also approved for use with potable water. Rapp-it has numerous applications for emergency repairs to fix pipe leaks in many different types of mines, including coal.
