AAMHatch has partnered with two satellite imagery companies, GeoEye and RapidEye, to collect large areas of imagery over bushfire affected regions in Victoria.

The group claims this type of spatial information is vital for power utilities to assess the damage and for planning for the future.

AAMHatch has pre and post fire imagery across most fire affected regions.

The IKONOS and GeoEye-1 satellites produce high resolution satellite imagery (0.8m and 0.5m pixels respectively) which shows details useful for damage assessment, insurance claims and detailed mapping. The attached flyer shows the coverage and dates of image capture.

The 5m resolution RapidEye data which is useful for regional applications is now commercially available and easily accessible via AAMHatch’s new web interface.

The rapid response from GeoEye and RapidEye to program immediate new data illustrates what can be achieved in emergency situations. AAMHatch, who are already providing bushfire related geospatial services in Victoria, recognise the vital role satellite geospatial data and analysis will have in Victoria’s immense mapping and rebuilding program.
