Xstrata tells Govt. “that was private”

XSTRATA says it did not give permission for data revealing that the company would have to sack 1000 coal miners if the emissions trading scheme is implemented to be released publicly.

The miner claims the government had no right to release the information it claims is market-sensitive and was given in confidence.

Industry officials believe the scheme as is, would not be beneficial for the industry or the greater economy.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has recently expressed support for a coal industry campaign claiming further concessions for miners are needed.

However, some analysts claim the scheme would have barely any impact on Xstrata as most of its coal is sent overseas, the company would have almost no carbon liability.
