RIO Tinto says that it is recruiting 150 new staff at its Hail Creek coal mine, Queensland.
Now that the coal markets are booming, with the industry clocking up record tonnage for the year, new jobs have been created to strip back overburden, allowing it to increase production.
General Manager of operations Andrew Woodley says the group is aiming to continue to target local people for the new roles.
Woodley says this will benefit local employment and the region's economy, as well as keep in step with the mining company’s female recruitment strategy.
