Linc Energy launches the world's first coal-to-liquids demonstration in Oz

LINC Energy has announced that it has officially opened the world's first coal-to-liquids demonstration using underground coal gasification (UCG) technology.

The company is producing synthetic diesel and jet fuel from coal seams from the plant located in Chinchilla, Australia.

Linc Energy says that UCG clean coal technology is simply a unique and smart way of releasing the valuable energy contained in stranded underground coal resources.

Australia’s minister for resources and energy Martin Ferguson launched the plant. He says that the UCG technology can unlock energy from Australia's significant stranded and otherwise uneconomic coal reserves.

Linc Energy says it has also entered into a co-operation agreement with Russia’s Skochinsky Institute of Mining and its Scientific — Technical Mining Association.
