Bounty loses coal mining contract

BOUNTY Mining has lost its mining contract at Anglo Coal’s Aquila Colliery in Queensland.

Capcoal, an Anglo subsidiary, says it will not extend Bounty’s current contract when it expires in March 2009, as a downturn for metallurgical coal has pushed the company to scale back its production.

Bounty has been contracted by the company since 2005 and currently has 50 employees and 46 contractors working at the site.

Bounty will continue mining out a panel at the German Creek mine in Queensland before dismantling and removing its equipment and infrastructure in April 2009.

Bounty still holds its roadway development contract at the Bundoora Colliery until May 2009, and is seeking an extension until May 2010.
