Apex moves ahead with coal seam mining plans

APEX Energy has lodged its plans to explore the Illawarra escarpment for methane gas found in coal seams with the New South Wales Department of Planning.

The company says it wants to drill 15 coal seam gas exploration wells at locations along the escarpment.

The business hopes to eventually mine enough methane gas to power a 400 megawatt power station.

Apex Energy director, Alen Thomas, says the company has been through an extensive consultation process with government agencies, community and environment groups.
