Rio Tinto workers receive a cold cut on the chopping board

RIO Tinto has confirmed it will shed 70 jobs from its Australian coal division.

The miner says most of these changes will take effect immediately, while other roles will finish over the next few months as specific pieces of work are concluded.

The job losses will be from Rio Tinto Coal Australia’s head office in Brisbane and its operations across Queensland and New South Wales.

Rio Tinto claims it does not expect that coal production will be affected by these changes.

The job cuts are part of the mining company’s global restructure which will involve the slashing of 14,000 jobs worldwide.
