Power to the people disrupts station operation

VICTORIAN Police have arrested three protesters who have demonstrated at the Hazelwood power station near Morwell in Victoria on 28 March 2009.

The protesters were part of a group of 30 people who were protesting Australia’s reliance on non-renewable energy in light of Earth Hour.

Two protesters chained themselves to a conveyor belt, briefly disrupting the supply of coal between the Hazelwood mine and the power plant.

The group claims the Hazelwood facility is one of the most polluting coal-fired power stations in the industrialised world. They say it emits 5% of the country’s annual emissions.
