NSW Government gives thumbs-up to new coal mines

TWO new coal mining projects have been given the go-ahead by the NSW State Government.

The Department of Planning has given the Glennies Creek and Bulga mines approval to modify their consent conditions.

As part of modifications, Integra Coal will trial an underground mining system at the Glennies Creek operation involving a continuous miner which will cut out lengths of roadway to develop panels.

The Bulga open cut operation will modify its operations by relocating existing tyre-changing and washdown bay facilities.

It is hoped changes to both mining operations will boost efficiency and increase the capacity of a coal-handling preparation plant dam in the Hunter region.
