Industrea wins $20m coal mining equipment supply deal

INDUSTREA has announced that it has won a $20m contract to supply the world’s largest and most advanced longwall mining equipment to China.

The company will supply China Shenhua Energy with six 80t longwall roof support carriers and one 130t Shearer for one of the world’s largest underground coal reserves.

Industrea Managing Director and CEO, Robin Levison, says the company would provide the world’s largest flame-proof carriers, comprising six 80 tonne Chock carriers and one 130 tonne Shearer Carrier, to the unit of the leading Chinese diversified energy group.

Levison claims the Shendong Mine is developing one of the world’s largest longwalls at its coal reserves in Shendong Province, and they have chosen Industrea’s world-leading equipment due to its superior design, speed and safety performance.

Industrea says the size and complexity of the revolutionary new Australian-built equipment represents a material advance in underground coal mining, and follows two years of planning and product development.

The equipment will allow the mine’s 7.3 metre coal seam to be mined in a single pass, thereby producing significant gains in productivity and efficiency which other miners both in China and other countries will seek to emulate. The size and complexity of this equipment will allow the mining of coal seams up to 7.3 meters high without the requirement to use either top level caving or the 2 pass method, which are significantly more expensive and potentially more dangerous.

Levison says at a time of unprecedented economic volatility, Industrea continues to expand internationally in line with its long-standing strategy to diversify and profitably grow its business across a number of dimensions. He says the company has now secured over A$100 million of new export contracts since July 2008 — a genuine Australian manufacturing success story amid the global financial crisis.
